
Linda Blair, who was only five in the year she was cast, had to become accustomed to being in the spotlight. In the beginning, she was a child model or actor, she was chosen for the role as Regan the possessed girl, among 600 hopefuls, in The Exorcist, (1973). Linda got the Golden Globe and was on path to be awarded the Academy Award. However, the news broke that Mercedes McCambridge had dubbed the demon voice, and that the 8 second scenes were acted by a stunt-double, the dream of an A-list professional fell flat. Through the years, Linda was able to land lead part in a range of film. They included the highly successful film on television Born Innocent and Sarah T. Sarah T. Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic as well as Exorcist II - The Heretic. She splurged on cocaine due to peer pressure at age 18, it led to the arrest of her and three years of probation. Linda was blacklisted by Hollywood after the much publicized drug arrest. Her career soon became reduced to B movies and guest TV appearances.
